Full Moon + Stirring Stew = Multiple Calls

2/3/07 - With the annual Stew fundraiser going on and an engine and a rescue

staffed for the day crews ran many back to back calls including one entrapment.

3:00 - With much coffee, and no sleep for some, members started what would become a

long day.

7:00 - The probies finally showed up

8:30 - The calls for the day began with a tractor trailer over turned on US Highway 29S.

E-222 arrived to find a tractor trailer truck pulling two trailers with one of the trailers on

its side. R-228 arrived and blocked the right lane to slow traffic and after the arrival of

VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) E-222 and R-228 cleared and returned

two service.

10:12 - After being back in the station about 8 minutes St.22 was dispatched to a fire alarm.

E-223 responded w/4.

10:18 - While responding to the fire alarm a call was received for an MVA on highway 29N

just north of Gretna. At the same time St. 22 was advised that the fire alarm was a false alarm

and E-223 responded to the wreck along with E-222. E-223 arrived to find a single vehicle

in a creek. Vehicle was traveling south crossed the median and the north bound lane and

landed in the creek. Their were no patients at the scene.

10:50 - While on scene of the MVA on 29N a second MVA on Main St. was toned out. E-223 responded

while the E-222 remained on scene. E-223 arrived to find a  minor two vehicle MVA. With road blocked.

All units were back in service at 11:30 hrs.

16:29 While everyone was cleaning up from the stew a call came into the station for a CO detector

sounding. E-222 responded w/3 and arrived to find a faulty detector after checking the environment

with the multi gas detector. E-222 called a can handle and returned the Rescue w/3.

17:53 - While resting from a long hard day the tones sounded yet for another MVA. The

call was dispatched as single vehicle accident unknown injuries on Bibee Rd. E-222 responded

in less than two minutes w/5. As E-222 arrived bystanders came running to the engine and advised

command (Chief 22) that there was still a person in the vehicle. With multiple power lines down

in all directions the engines crew carefully did the inner and outer circles and found a single vehicle

on its top with one patient trapped in the vehicle on the passengers side. After the vehicle was

secured the new Genesis Combi Tool was put to work on its first job and performed a inverted side

panel removal which consist of popping the passenger side front door, back door, removed

the back door from the B post and cut the B post out. Patients was successfully

removed and transported to hospital by Med flight 3.
